ABOUT THE TEAM

The Trek Factory Downhill team was born on 1st January 2016 when Dan, Gee and Rachel Atherton signed to race for Trek Bicycles.

The partnership marks the start of a new era for the Athertons, recognised around the world as the fastest family on two wheels. Between them they already hold 7 World Championships, 43 World Cups and 16 UK National titles.

The 2017 team will also include 16 year–old Kade Edwards, a graduate of the Atherton Academy and Graeme Mudd a 23 year old Aussie rider who won Australian National series titles in 2014/15 and 2015/6.

Trek already have a successful road team and on the MTB side the Downhill team join a star-studded group of awesome riders across the cross-country team, Enduro team and C3 Project.

With Trek’s expert backing, their resources and commitment to developing the world’s fastest race bikes the Downhill riders are confident that there are many more victories to come.

Martin Maes graduates the Atherton Academy to sign an Elite contract with GT

Rachel completes the perfect season – 7 out of 7 World Cup wins and the World Championship.

Rachel awarded the BT Action Sportswoman of the Year Award

Dan’s Hardline GoPro goes viral with over 20 million views

2015

Rachel Atherton wins DH World Championships for the 3rd time

She wins 6 of 7 World Cup rounds to take the Overall DH World Cup Series for the 4th time

She is named 23rd most influential woman in UK sport by the Independent Newspaper

Atherton Academy’s Martin Maes wins Downhill World Cup at Fort William

Mark Beaumont takes a year out of riding to host GMBN

2014

Gee Atherton wins DH World Championships for the 2nd time

Dan Atherton creates the first ever Red Bull Hardline and films Escape.Create

Academy riders Taylor Vernon and Martin Maes win their first Downhill World Cups

(barely a year since Taylor broke his back at Crankworx Les Deux Alpes)

14 year old Kade Edwards joins the Atherton Academy

2013

Rachel wins 2013 DH World Championship and World Cup Series 2013

She becomes the most awarded British Mountain-biker in the history of the sport

and becomes BTSports first Action Woman of the Year

 

Martin wins Junior Enduro World Series

GT Factory Racing are the World’s Fastest Race team for the second year running

Launch of 4 x 3 Films featuring the infamous Quarry line

 

2012

Partnership with GT Bicycles – GT Factory Racing team is launched

The family are joined by Mark “Slugger” Beaumont

Junior riders Taylor Vernon and Martin Maes join the team as part of the Atherton Academy

Rachel wins DH World Cup Series for the 3rd time

GT Factory Racing are the World’s Fastest Race team

Dan wins first major Enduro at Superenduro Finale Ligure

2011

Atherton Project Series 3 with Danny MacAskill

Dan back on his bike, takes 2nd place at Maxi Avalanche

2010

Gee wins World Series Overall

Gee takes his first medal in Red Bull Rampage – a silver.

Commencal take over title sponsorship

Atherton Project Series 2

Rachel back on the bike, takes the World Cup victory at Windham

Dan crashes out at his local dirt jumps.

He breaks his neck at C1, C2 and spends the next 3 months screwed into a halo.

2009

Launch of the Atherton Project

Rachel injured when she collides with a pick-up on a California training ride

2008

Gee and Rachel win World Championships

Al three siblings win World Cups in Andorra, Gee and Rachel in DH, Dan takes 4X
